Michi from Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol. 1

Kitaro makes a song for each temple, so Ku-Kai series will be 88 tracks.

The Shikoku Pilgrimage (四国八十八箇所 Shikoku Hachijūhakkasho) is a pilgrimage of eighty-eight temples on the island of Shikoku, Japan. "Ryōzenji (霊山寺)" is the first temple of the pilgrimage, and the very first track of Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai, Vol1, "MICHI" is a piece in the motif of Ryozenji Peacebell.

History of Ryozenji
Ryozenji was built in 729 by Shomu Emperor. Gyoki who was called "Bosatsu" initiated this temple.

In 815, Ku-Kai had stayed and trained for Buddhism at this temple for 21 days. During the training Duddha appeared and told him that he should make 88 places of hallowed grounds in order to help people, and Ryozenji would be the first temple. Ku-Kai followed the Buddha's will, and created 88 halowed grounds.

About Ryozenji
As the first temple of the pilgrimage, many pilgrims come and prepare for their long journeys here. At this temple, pilgrims can get sedge hats, pilgrim's staff, white coats, and many other stuffs for the pilgrimage. The other important thing about pilgrims do at this temple is that Pilgrims have to swear to Ku-Kai to obey his ten commandments, such as a promise not to tell a lie. And then, pilgrims begin their journeys as a follower of Ku-Kai, and people believe that Ku-Kai is always next to them along the way, this belief is called "dogyo ninin."

Best of FUMIO

The Best of Fumio is a collection of music from the groundbreaking Japanese composer Fumio Miyashita. Fumio's illustrious career spans over three decades, during which time he has released over 80 albums in Japan alone, and millions worldwide.

Fumio's healing music was created in the riches of nature in the Iizuna highlands of rural Japan. It is here that Fumio sought to understand the principles of harmony found in Oriental philosophy and Medical Science, which he then applied to his unique style of therapeutic music.

Our present world, referred to as a "left-brain society", puts great emphasis on logical, information processing -- versus creativity and imagination, which are ruled by the right hemisphere of the brain. Certain music has been known to bridge the gap between the two hemispheres by releasing blockages to the right-brain, and thus giving the left brain a rest by balancing the functions of both with sound vibrations.

As Fumio suggests, Dont listen too intently, dont listen too deeply . . . just listen as you would to water flowing.

More than entertainment, this collection will last into personal moments of healing to help minimize stress and serve the mind, body and spirit.

Steamboy Original Soundtrack

Anime Expo is comming soon, so let's check some Japanese animation today.

STEAMBOY
Steamboy is the soundtrack to the epic anime film directed by the legendary Katsuhiro Otomo, director of the critically acclaimed cult classic, Akira. The culmination of a two year project and Otomo's first release since Akira, Steamboy is being hailed as the most impressive anime film of 2005.

The Steamboy soundtrack is composed by Steve Lablonsky, a protege of Hans Zimmer and one of today's hottest up-and-coming composers. Complex animation and CGI make Steamboy one of the most visually impressive films of 2005, and Steve Jablonsky's adventurous score is the perfect accompaniment to such an epic film. The score is thoroughly orchestral, and covers a wide range of styles, from racing strings and pounding percussion to quiet, poignant melodies.

The Steamboy soundtrack is good-old-fashioned orchestral music, yet till completely innovative and definitely a collector's item!

Song of the Day - Morricone

Today's song is Morricone from Yoshida Brothers' album "III." This song stood out as I listened through the whole album and that was simply because it was different from the others.

The song breaks down to three sections and each has its own unique feel. The brothers, also, play in different style. Instead of showing off their fancy chops, they play modestly, for half of the song, playing the accompaniment.

So this song shows another face of Shamisen: I never thought its edggy sound would blend in with a backband.

"Silence" - Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai vol. 1

"Silence" from Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai vol. 1 by Kitaro

As some of you might already know, this Ku-Kai series by Kitaro incorporate sounds of temple bells found in Shikoku island of Japan. Hoping to bring peace to this post 9.11 world, Kitaro started the project in 2001. In "Silence," Kitaro uses his bamboo flute, harp, rain stick, and synthesizer to express calmness and tranquility. It reminds of a silent Japanese garden with a bamboo water fountain.
