Shortly after 9/11, Kitaro began a pilgrimage to the island of Shikoku, which has 88 temples, each with its own distinct temple bells. The Japanese keyboardist has been recording those bells and working them into the fabric of The Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai, of which this is the second volume in a projected series. The first volume unlocked a new energy in Kitaro's music, with more open spaces and instruments like the erhu and pipa (Chinese violin and lute) lending his landscapes an organic immediacy. But Kitaro is a composer who doesn't know when to stop. He takes the freshest elements of his music, like the koto-erhu duet at the core of "Shining Spirit of Water," and buries them in the same choir pads, electronic squiggles, dripping strings, and whooping synthesizers that have been his sonic signature since 1978's Astral Voyage. Even the relatively austere meditation of "Peaceful Valley," featuring Native American flute, and the darker textures of "Ka-Non," get swamped as Kitaro gilds the lily and then dips it in a treacly bath sweeter than a glazed doughnut. The thought that Kitaro's Shikoku pilgrimage has already turned into a tedious trudge doesn't bode well.

First in a new series of conceptual albums, Kitaro's Sacred Journey of Ku-kai is a foray into a unique perspective of an issue that is on everyone's mind this day. Inspired by the events of September 11, the music is intended to address a holistic solution to personal and global concerns juxtaposed against forward-thinking views of our own spiritual development.

Over the last year, Kitaro has begun a traditional Japanese spiritual pilgrimage to a number of temples in Japan. Known as the Shikoku Henro Pilgrimage, this journey will take him on a circular path to all 88 temples on the island of Shikoku (Japan). On Kitaro's journey, he has sampled bell sounds from each temple as a basis for the compositions on Sacred Journey of Ku-kai. The music will also feature guest artists from around the world, including Tibetan Master and flutist Nawang Khechog. It is Kitaro's intention that his message of peace will help people appreciate the nature of our individual experiences and that they can only unify us all in global and spiritual co-existence.

Press Conference of documentary film "442 -Live with honor, die with dignity-"

Today we went to the press conference of documentary film "442 -Live with honor, die with dignity-" held in downtown LA.

This movie is the second installment of Japanese American trilogy directed by Junichi Suzuki following the previous documentary film "Toyo's Camera".

The film focuses on the 442nd Infantry Regiment consisted of mainly Japanese American soldiers who fought not only against enemy but fought against prejudice. It reveals the unknown stories during WWII.

Kitaro will release the original soundtrack album "442" in this July.
In this soundtrack album, some quotes from the monologues with the 442nd veterans are used as an introduction for each song, and it makes this album much more than a soundtrack in that you will experience first hands, than real life struggles of these heroes.

We will update more info soon!

Grand Master Tanaka

The theme for this year's opening ceremony commemorates the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Japanese Kanrin Maru on San Francisco bay. Harmony Festival CEO Howard "Bo" Sapper says, " These nautical pioneers shared a spirit of adventure, openness and respect for all mankind, a philosophy which is also embedded in the roots and mission of Harmony Festival."

As Kitaro explains, "Our ceremony will unite the voice of the heart with the voice of the earth, and open our mind to the peaceful energy within us all, in a spirit of Harmony." This ceremony is sacred yet joyful, commemorative yet inspiring, historical yet timeless.

To Grand Master Tanaka, Taiko drumming can be expressed in one word—-heartbeat. "We listen to it before we are born—it is instinctive." Harmony Festival programming director Sean Ahearn agrees, saying, "The message of this opening ceremony will be harmony, manifested through the musical vibration of sacred drums, signifying the unification of all beings through one collective, vibrating, pulsating heartbeat."
SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT - DR. BRUCE LIPTON

The Harmony Festival attracts a health and ecologically conscious audience throughout Northern California and increasingly across the west coast.
Comprised largely of "Cultural Creatives" who actively support the burgeoning Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) movement, this demographic represents one of the fastest growing markets i North America with attendees largely coming from the North Bay counties of Sonoma/Napa/Marin often sited as one of the most affluent and socially progressive regions in the entire country.
The festival also draws heavily from the urban centers of San Francisco, Berkeley/Oakland, and Sacramento/Davis, as well as San Jose/Santa Cruz/Monterey areas to the south and Mendocino and Humboldt counties, north to the Oregon border.

Kitaro dedication for Goshinki

Gaia Onbashira is a musical exploration of respect and how it relates to ancient traditions. Gaia loosely translates to Goddess of the Earth or Mother Earth and Onbashira is a festival that occurs every seven years in Japan.

During the Onbashira festival, eight individuals are chosen for spiritually cleansing. The participants ascend a mountain and attempt to spiritually connect with the heavens through the trees. These trees are then allowed to fall down the mountain and eventually become posts and the foundation of a ceremonial shrine.

Through these events, these individuals learn to become more in touch with their spirits.

Here is the website about Onbashira Festival.

Hair? That's his 'antenna'
New Age musician Kitaro says he uses it to channel energies of the universe
By Tan Kee Yun
February 13, 2010

NP_SHOW_1_CURRENT_TKTARO.jpg

TO most of us, hair is simply, well, hair.

But to 57-year-old Japanese New Age musician Kitaro, his trademark long locks hold a far more significant and spiritual meaning.

"My hair is like an antenna, receiving energies from the different planets," he told The New Paper matter-of-factly in heavily-accented English.

"It's like my sixth sense."

Kitaro, renowned for scoring the soundtrack of Heaven And Earth, director Oliver Stone's Vietnam war epic, was in town on Wednesday to promote his upcoming concert.

His Love & Peace Planet Music Tour next month will be his fifth gig in Singapore.

Peace and serenity are terms commonly associated with Kitaro's instrumental hits.

In person, he strikes a Zen-like demeanour, greeting us by putting his palms together.

He has kept his hair long for nearly 30 years.

New Release - [LIMITED] Impressions Of The West Lake with Signature by Kitaro (ONLY 7 Left)

Impression_w_Kitaro_sign.jpg

52nd GRAMMY NOMINEE BEST NEW AGE ALBUM

Impressions Of The West Lake is a modern day opera conceived and directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Zhang Yimou (Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower), the visionary artist behind the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The production is highlighted by music composed by the Grammy and Golden Globe Award winning artist Kitaro. This pairing of East-meets-West is a rare combination of two artists at the peak of their creative talents.

The opera also marks a reunion for Kitaro and music arranger Randy Miller, the pair's first effort together since the Golden Globe-winning soundtrack to Oliver Stone’s 1993 film Heaven and Earth. This opera is another impressive credit for Miller, whose lengthy career as a composer, orchestrator, and conductor for films includes such highlights as Without Limits, First Snow, and The Soong Sisters (Best Original Score, Hong Kong Film Award). The show’s soundtrack also features rising Chinese pop star Jane Zhang, a gifted young performer who provides stunning vocals to the production on the title track, "Impressions Of The Westlake".

Through the course of his career, Kitaro has sold millions of albums, CD's and DVD's worldwide. Kitaro's various sound collaborations and resonant, multi-textured compositions, with their crescendos of passion and oases of serenity, truly defy the constraints of any genre. His pioneering fusion of cultures, techniques and spheres of consciousness is truly his own. kitaro_ancient_journey_sign.jpeg

This two-disc set featuring 19 compositions is a wonderful glimpse into the great civilizations past through the eyes of musical pioneer and Grammy Award winning composer, Kitaro. In An Ancient Journey, Kitaro takes his audience on a trek to worlds far away. Listeners embark on a mysterious crusade, witnessing "the texture, life and spirit of the world's ancient people." Traditional Middle Eastern and Chinese instruments in addition to one of his favorite technological advances, the analogue synthesizer, make An Ancient Journey a melodic voyage, which is vintage Kitaro. In addition to his signature arrangements, the recording features a new addition to Kitaro's musician family, Kristin Kanda on flute.
Kitaro was commissioned to record the accompanying soundtrack to the NHK television special, "Messages From the Past". An Ancient Journey continues this campaign, which spawned the creation of the 2001 Grammy Nominated release, Ancient..

New Release - [LIMITED] Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol.3 Signature by Kitaro (ONLY 5 Left)

kitaro_kukai3_sign.jpeg

Kitaro picks up the path of his sacred journey through Shikoku, an island that has 88 temples, each with its own distinct temple bells. The Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai, Volume 3, is the latest in a projected multi-disc series in which the Japanese keyboardist has been recording those bells and working them into the matrix of his music. Taking its name from Kukai, a Japanese monk and founder of the Shingon school of Buddhism in the 9th century, the series follows a path that gets more languid with each album. The synthesist has jettisoned most of the sappy strings that marred his previous journeys, opting for floating, ambient spaces centered around organic sounds. "Crystal Winds" might be the most carefully formed, albeit rhythm-free and melodically amorphous track Kitaro has composed in years. It builds from a floating array of Native American flute, zithers, Balinese gamelan, temple bells, and harmonic singing merging into filter-swept synthesizer before a brief santoor melody is teased out of it. It's not long before Kitaro tosses in electric-guitar leads on the grandiose sweep of "After the Rain," replete with his patented whooping Korg lead lines. If he'd left out the sampled choirs and strings, it might've risen above generic easy-listening new age, which is still preferable to "Winds Blow over the Hill," a thinly veiled lift from his own Silk Road that makes it sound like a score for a sanatorium. But Kitaro redeems himself with the last two tracks, a hypnotic jam with some uncharacteristically raving guitar over a sequencer ostinato called "Voice in Blue," and "Circle Dance," a ritualistic piece for bells, flute, and what sounds like metal mixing bowls. I kept looking into the kitchen to see if my wife was making something, but I liked the way it added three-dimensionality to the piece. With The Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai, Volume 3, Kitaro gives us hope that the trek might be worth continuing.

The mug measures 3 by 3 by 7-1/8 inches.

KITARO Select Wine

"Impressions 2007" Maboroshi Pinot Noir
with Kitaro's autograph on all bottles

750ml - $55.00

Very limited numbers available!

Purchase at Maboroshi Wine Estates !

Kitaro "Impressions" 2007 Maboroshi Pinot Noir debuts September 2, 2009. Golden Globe and Grammy award-winning prolific composer & musician, Kitaro is, in collaboration with Maboroshi Vineyard, preparing for the premier release of his “Impressions” 2007 Maboroshi Pinot Noir. Due to debut in September along with his newest album “Impressions of West Lake” ; a musical interpretation inspired by the ethereal Opera on Water performances at China’s West Lake, this hand selected barrel blend is a classical Pinot Noir with elegant aromas and tastes expressive of the native “terroir”. The art for the label is the same as his newest cd jacket of the performers dancing as if on top of the water itself. Quantities are extremely limited as each bottle is personally signed by Kitaro.
The story began nearly 14 or 15 years ago, while touring another custom crush winery (where Tom was employed prior to beginning the Maboroshi brand), Kitaro coincidentally met Tom. Talks of making a “Kitaro” wine at that time fell through. However, several years later, after Kitaro moved from his home deep in the Colorado mountains to Northern California’s Sebastopol, they would meet by chance again and the idea of making wine together became a reality; this time using the Maboroshi Vineyard Pinot Noir. We are extremely honored to have our wine be a part of Kitaro's journey. Now it is soon to be released and available in both California and Japan in timing with Kitaro’s September concert tour in Japan. For purchasing click to continue.

Kitaro World Report Vol.6

Kitaro World Report vol.6

Hello everyone. How are you doing?

My 2009 tour started from Asia and India.
I have played in Singapore and Malaysia many times,
but it was my first time to play in India.

We was going to play at Targe Mahal first, but
we need to change the place because of terrorism in Mumbai.
And finally, we could play in New Deli.

Local people told that we visited good time in India (March)
because of the temperature.
If we go to India in April, the temperature is over 120 F (50 C)!!!

It took for a long time to set up the stage and rehearsal,
so I was worried that we could play concert in India.
But, we had great 2 shows in India!

[My schedule in 2009]
I am going to play at Mt. Fuji (August).
After that, I play concert in Nara, Tokyo, and Nagoya (Japan) in September.
I have not had big concert in Japan for a while, so please come to my show!
It will be great show.

I am recording new album, "Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol.4" in my Studio.
I will release it this year, so please wait for a while.

See you next time!

Peace,

Kitaro

Correction Note in the Domo Newsletter

Dear all subscribers

We regret to announce that there was one wrong information in the newsletter sent today.

In the article of the Harmony Festival, we announced that there are 3 million people coming every year.
But the true number is 300,000. Not 3,000,000....
We are truly sorry for this mistake.

Yet, Harmony Festival is quite big event and people come from all over the U.S.
Kitaro will perform on June 13th and 14th.
Hope you can come and enjoy the harmony of music!

Impressions Of The West Lake article by China Internet Information Center

This article from China Internet Information Center.

"In heaven, there is paradise; on earth, it's Suzhou and Hangzhou". This popular saying captures very well the charm of Hangzhou.

Situated in China's eastern province of Zhejiang, Hangzhou was once described by the 13th century Italian traveler Marco Polo as "the most splendid and luxurious city in the world". This is most evident in the West Lake area, the city's most prominent scenic spot.

Nestled amid hilly peaks on three sides, the lake has been inspiring poets of great acclaim for centuries.

Following the success of "Impression Liu Sanjie" and "Impression Lijiang", renowned Chinese director Zhang Yimou is now extending his outdoor musical series to the picturesque West Lake. The result is a unique outdoor production titled "Impression West Lake."

Wang Chaoge, co- director of the play, explains their initiative.

"The beauty of the West Lake goes far beyond its natural scenery. Its stories and cultural heritage make the place more appealing. It's meaningless to replicate the plant and hills. Instead, we try to create a space for imagination. It is a great challenge for us to turn real nature into an imaginary fairyland in people's minds. "

Kitaro Impression of the West Lake

Kitaro's new album, Impression of The West Lake, available at Domo Store!

With Impressions Of The West Lake, Kitaro continues to explore new, uncharted terrain with his magnificently expansive vision and ever-questing spirit.

Kitaro live review by the Sun

Kitaro serenade
Once again, the maestro mesmerises fans with his ethereal music
at his recent Genting concert

Sharyn Yap

THERE are criteria to observe to enjoy a Kitaro concert. You must truly love his unique style of presentation and most importantly, you must be in the right frame of mind.
Bearing in mind that the man is a living legend and musical maestro, you must also be prepared to leave conventional musical styles behind when you enter his domain.

He has been quoted in the past that his music comes from a power beyond – from heaven to be exact – and that it flows through his body and out of his fingers when he composes.

The fact that he has never studied music, don’t read or write music and, according to him, "never practises" – it is indeed hard to fathom how those beautiful out-of-this-world sounds come from.

It was certainly a different experience when I attended his Kitaro Live in Genting 2009 concert at the Arena of Stars last Saturday.

There was an air of respect, and after the initial cheers and applause that greeted his appearance on stage, the packed hall settled down to enjoy his first piece.

It was a new song that Kitaro said has yet to be released. It was performed with the double flute and his trademark improvisations.

This was followed by a surreal performance in the dark. As the whole hall was plunged into darkness with only the screen flashing scenes of different landscapes, the seasons and a kaleidoscope of sky colours, the audience either focused their attention on the screen or closed their eyes and immersed themselves in the rousing sounds of Alex, Gamelan, Morning Prayer, Waterfront Mandolins and Oasis.

RockOm's Interview with Grammy-award winning composer, Kitaro

“A Much Happy Man”
RockOm's Interview with Grammy-award winning composer, Kitaro
By Tom Crenshaw, tom@RockOm.net

RockOm: What was your initial response when you were approached to compose the music for the Toyo’s Camera documentary?

Kitaro: It was an honor. This was a very important time in the history of Japanese Americans. The fact that they selected my music to represent these people in this important film is quite humbling. Most of the tracks are from previous works of mine. I am also an avid photographer so, of course that aspect of things made it especially interesting to me, but mostly the history is what is important to me about this film.

RockOm: You collaborated with Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda on the music for Toyo’s Camera. Had you two worked together before?

Kitaro: They utilized one of Mike's songs for the film - but we just missed recording together. We did try to work together for a special track, but Mike's band mate hurt his back in China of all places, so I think the schedules suddenly changed and we weren't able to do it in the end. But I know we did what we could to make it happen. Maybe next time; it would be great.

RockOm: What do you enjoy most about collaborating? Tell us about your experiences working with Mickey Hart and the essence of collaborating. Do you see a day when you will collaborate again on projects?

Kitaro: Again, funny you ask. We're talking to Mickey Hart about maybe doing something again (that might be a scoop). The collaborative process is always interesting because it takes you out of your comfort zone and you end up making different decisions during the actual recording. It's often refreshing. It allows you to go places musically you don't normally go.

RockOm: You’re quoted as saying, "I never had education in music; I just learned to trust my ears and my feelings." You’ve also stated, 'Whose song is this?' I write my songs, but they are not my songs." Where does music come from?

Kitaro: It's all about nature and mother earth for me. I learned playing the guitar and now perform more with keyboards, so that allows me to think about music from two varying sides of creation. We must respect the earth. That's the inspiration for me, always.

RockOm: Is all music essentially spiritual?

Kitaro: For me, absolutely.

RockOm: You infuse Indian, Chinese and European music into your own unique sound; but initially you were inspired by R&B. How important is having a passion for diversity to a musician’s evolution into developing their own style or sound?

Kitaro: The rhythms emanating from R&B music are so different from eastern music. I think that's why the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Elvis always were inspired by [R&B].

RockOm: How long do you intend to observe the August full moon at Mt. Fuji with your annual concert?

Kitaro: As long as my schedule permits. It's quite amazing.

RockOm: How do you see music, in general, evolving in the next five to 10 years?

Kitaro: I hope the CD business stays alive. Downloading music is cool - one song at a time - but many of my projects have a common theme, so it isn't always about a hit single for me and others like me in the world music arena. I even see vinyl making a comeback with some artists, which I love because again, digital is cool, but sometimes you get more warmth with vacuum tubes instead of chips.

RockOm: If you couldn’t play music any longer what do you think you would spend your time doing?

Kitaro: Photography is my second love; definitely photography.

RockOm: The great jazz musician Sun Ra is quoted as saying, "The planet is asleep and it's the fault of musicians who are untrue to themselves." Do you believe this?

Kitaro: I think most musicians try to remain true to themselves. I think some people on the planet may be sleepwalking sometimes, but the beauty of the planet is ever-changing, never sleeping and always glorious.

RockOm: Your Japanese nickname translates to “a much happy man”. Are you truly a happy man and are you content with your life?

Kitaro: So lucky, so peaceful, so busy... so happy!

Kitaro Live review by The Star

Kitaro unleashes a tidal show
By AZHARIAH KAMIN

Drawing heavily from nature and the elements, Kitaro unleashed a tidal show at Genting Highlands last weekend.

Spellbinding! That’s the closest word that came to mind to describe the living music legend Kitaro and his solid two-and-half hour concert at the Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands last Saturday.

In fact, I had been toying with many different words – from awesome to mesmerising – to describe Kitaro’s magic on stage but in the end, no word could really describe his magnificent showcase of music, energy and passion that night.

Now I know why people have been saying that Kitaro’s music is best experienced live.

Under the Love and Peace World Tour 2009 banner, Kitaro presented a high-tech audiovisual show and the first part of the concert showcased the composer’s latest compositions which were played live to the audience for the first time.

Kitaro is recording Peace Bell in Shikoku, Japan

Kitaro’s music has long been renowned for its messages of peace and spirituality. In the wake of September 11, the artist began recording Sacred Journey Of Ku-kai,, an intended series of peace-themed albums (Vol. 1 released in 2003; Vol. 2 in 2005; Vol.3 in 2007), inspired by the classic Buddhist pilgrimage to the 88 sacred temples on Japan’s remote Shikoku Island, a journey taken by the beloved Buddhist monk Ku-kai over a millennium ago. “The wars of the world don’t come from outer space. People create them, people who have a war within themselves. I want to create music that eases the war within,” Kitaro says.

Kitaro was recording Peace Bell in Shikoku, Japan as following schedule now.

Toyo’s Camera is a collaboration of world renowned artists including Photographers: Toyo Miyatake, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Musicians: Kitaro, Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park) and Film Director: Junichi Suzuki. Toyo’s Camera is A Documentary Told through Toyo's Photographs. While cameras were prohibited in internment camps, there was one photographer who smuggled in a lens and built a camera with it, to capture life behind barbed wires. That photographer was Toyo Miyatake. Toyo's photographs of the internment camp captures the compelling stories of Japanese Americans during World War II in this feature documentary "TOYO'S CAMERA ~Japanese American History during WWII~."

The myriad of photographs of the Japanese and Japanese American internees’ daily lives faithfully portrays the time period. This story about their internment is not told from the perspective of the Japanese American victims, but from a third person party's neutral point-of-view. The works of Toyo's mentors and companions, 20th century's famed photographers Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, are also uncovered in this film. Close to 500 riveting photographs of the Japanese Americans internment come to life on the big screen.

Coupling with Toyo's photographs is world renowned Grammy and Golden Globe Award winning artist, Kitaro's euphonious music.

The powerful and vivid songs dramatically add energy to Toyo's photographs. As a Grammy and Golden Globe award-winning artist, this incredibly prolific composer and performer has continued his reign in the international spotlight and at the forefront of musical innovation ever since the release of his debut solo album, Astral Voyage, in 1978. His numerous recording highlights include 1986’s Tenku (his U.S. debut), 1987’s The Light of the Spirit (a collaboration with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Kitaro’s American breakthrough), as well as Sacred Journey of Ku-kai, a multi-volume series of peace-themed albums inspired by the tragedy of 9/11.

The thirty individuals who were interviewed each share their deep, intimate stories, which brings more life to the photographs and archived footage. The Soundtrack for this film is available on Domo Music. Kitaro's various sound collaborations and resonant, multi-textured compositions, with their crescendos of passion and oases of serenity, truly defy the constraints of any genre. His pioneering fusion of cultures, techniques and spheres of consciousness is truly his own. See more about Kitaro and Domo at www.domo.com

Kitaro Performs at Mt. Fuji REPORT

The 13th annual Taiko Drum event commenced in heavy rain with
great support from our veteran event team building the stage in a short time.

This event was tributed to Mr. Daihachi Oguchi, master of the Suwa Taiko, who
passed away in late June due to a traffic accident.

Kitaro's intention was to run the event even in stormy weather.
"Take this rain as a blessing and beat the taiko to your heart's desire!"
To this call, the participants who gathered at the site were united by the
Taiko beat.

Fireworks lit up the area and the taiko rhythm resonated throughout Mt. Fuji.

The event continued on till the next morning, and people saw the beautiful sky
breaking out of the gray sky.

We pray that there will be less war in the world and that peace will eventually
prevail this earth.

We wish all participants for this event this beautiful summer memory.

Local newspaper of Kitaro's home town, Higashi Mikawa Vol.2

Kitaro enjoys eating spring food like bracken or asparagus everyday.

By the way, Kitaro is constructing his new studio by himself with friends now. Also, he is composing a theme song for TV program at the same time.

This is an article from a local newspaper in my home town of Higashi Mikawa.

Kitaro’s history was broadcasted by NTV (Japan)

A famous Japanese TV program “What happen today” broadcasted Kitaro’s accomplishment, because broadcasted day [Feb/21/2008] was the same day that Kitaro won the Grammy Awards [Feb/21/2001].

Here is the Kitaro’s bio.

1953
He was born in Aichi prefecture, Japan.
After graduating for high school, he started his music career seriously.

1975
He organized a band named “Far East Family Band.”
Mr. Klaus Schulze famous German Musician and composer taught Kitaro how to play synthesizer in German.

1980
NHK, Japanese TV station, assigned Kitaro as a music director for theme song of “Silk Road”.

1986
He changed work places from Japan to USA.

1987
“The Light of the spirit” was nominated for the Grammy Awards for the first time in his life.

1990’s
He began to collect sound of nature to use his music.

2001
“Thinking of You” was completed and he won the Grammy Awards by this album.

His latest project, the third in a series of a collection of works and peace-themed albums (Vol. 1 released in 2003; Vol. 2 in 2005) is inspired by the classic Buddhist pilgrimage to the 88 sacred temples on Japan's remote Shikoku Island. A journey taken by the beloved Buddhist monk Ku-kai over a millennium ago , through the music contained in Sacred Journey of KuKai III, Kitaro continues to explore uncharted waters with his magnificently expansive vision and ever-questing spirit.

He participated in the ceremony of Mochitsuki (kneading Rice Cake) with my old friends and fans in Boulder, Colorado.

Here is a picture from my Love & Peace tour in December 2007.
He played at a Star Cruise in Singapore, and sang a Christmas song.
This is his first time and will be last time to sing a song...

He grows apples, pears, persimmons and strawberries in his home garden. It doesn't necessary look good, but tastes great!

Kitaro Love And Peace World Tour 2007 Review

Experiencing Kitaro live is like listening to mother nature traslated into music.
His atmospheric instrumentals invoke a feeling of wonder for the elements. It can be gentle and soothing like the sound of waves lapping gently on a sandy shore, or big and thunderous like the fury of a merciless storm.

The Japanese-born musician's name is synonymous with new age music around these parts. The one-night performance he gave on Thursday night as part of his Love And Peace Tour 2007, was his fourth gig in Singapore.

He last played here three years ago in 2004. "Three years too long for me," he announced, charming his audience right off.

Opening the two-hours set with the 20-minute "Sky And Ocean" from his latest release, "Sacred Journey Of Ku-Kai, Vol.3," the multi-instrumentalist was in fine form.

Moving effortlessly from chimes to flute to synthesizers, the 54-years-old even picked up an electric sitar at one point and jammed along with his five-piece band, trading riffs with his guitarist.

Song climaxes were punctuated by his furious beats on a giant taiko drum, and and even when he was not playing any instruments, his hands were busy making graceful movements as if he were plucking notes out of thin air.

The 7,000-strong crowd lapped it all up, giving him two standing ovations, before the encore and after the finale. Not surprisingly, they clapped the loudest when he performed his most well-known numbers, including the soundtracks from the 1980s Japanese television series "Silk Road" and Oliver Stone's movie "Heaven & Earth."

"It was a good show, very beautiful," said audience member Frank Heessels, 46. The Holland native works in Johor Baru, Malaysia, but he was a big enough Kitaro fan to make the trip across the Causeway to see the musician live.

Judging from the audience reaction, it was a sentiment that echoed throughout the cavernous dome of the Indoor Stadium.

Kitaro new album "The Definitive Collection

Kitaro new album "The Definitive Collection" will be released on November 6th, 2007.

BUT, you can get this album at domo online store before release date!

Click here to listen to "The Definitive Collection"

Since the early ’90s, the music of singular recording artist Kitaro has continually evolved over an astonishing run of 23 albums for longtime label Domo Records, garnering much critical and commercial success. The wordless poetry of this New Age pioneer is rooted in the traditions and musical sensibilities of his native Japan, while encompassing numerous world music influences. His multi-textured compositions are lush and transcendent, at once completely exotic and comfortably familiar. Warm and ambient, with earthly grooves, his sound reflects the inspiration Kitaro has long drawn from the beauty of the natural world, infusing his work with a peaceful, serene quality.

The sheer breadth of Kitaro’s eclecticism is on full display here, including selections from The Light Of The Spirit, a collaboration with the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart; the Grammy Award-winning album Thinking Of You; as well as the two-volume Sacred Journey of Kukai, an impressive melding of haunting woodwinds and nature sounds, inspired by Buddhist tradition.

The ten tracks on this Definitive Collection are an excellent introduction to the work of this New Age Master, illuminating his consistently impressive career. The disc offers a fine sampling of his vast output, ideal for first-time listeners and Kitaro completists alike. This music reveals the true depth of Kitaro’s unique and lasting artistry, standing as a testament to his enduring imagination.

Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol.2

Sacred Journey of Ku-kai: Vol.2 is the second in a series dedicated to Ku-kai, the legendary father of Japanese culture. This unique and gorgeously composed album contrains samples from Japanese temple bells (Peace Bell) and is intended to inspire spiritual awakening and a profound experience of peace.

With poignant, melodies and alchemic sound, Kitaro's multifaceted social undertaking of Ku-kai's ubiquitous mystical legend is an evocative, rich sonic terrain that documents his continuing pilgrimage to temples on the island of Shikoku, Japan, and further extends his intention of spreading peace through music.

"The wars of the world don't come from outer space. People create them, people who have a war within themselves. I want to creat music that eases that war within." - Kitaro

Michi from Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai Vol. 1

Kitaro makes a song for each temple, so Ku-Kai series will be 88 tracks.

The Shikoku Pilgrimage (四国八十八箇所 Shikoku Hachijūhakkasho) is a pilgrimage of eighty-eight temples on the island of Shikoku, Japan. "Ryōzenji (霊山寺)" is the first temple of the pilgrimage, and the very first track of Sacred Journey of Ku-Kai, Vol1, "MICHI" is a piece in the motif of Ryozenji Peacebell.

History of Ryozenji
Ryozenji was built in 729 by Shomu Emperor. Gyoki who was called "Bosatsu" initiated this temple.

In 815, Ku-Kai had stayed and trained for Buddhism at this temple for 21 days. During the training Duddha appeared and told him that he should make 88 places of hallowed grounds in order to help people, and Ryozenji would be the first temple. Ku-Kai followed the Buddha's will, and created 88 halowed grounds.

About Ryozenji
As the first temple of the pilgrimage, many pilgrims come and prepare for their long journeys here. At this temple, pilgrims can get sedge hats, pilgrim's staff, white coats, and many other stuffs for the pilgrimage. The other important thing about pilgrims do at this temple is that Pilgrims have to swear to Ku-Kai to obey his ten commandments, such as a promise not to tell a lie. And then, pilgrims begin their journeys as a follower of Ku-Kai, and people believe that Ku-Kai is always next to them along the way, this belief is called "dogyo ninin."
